Death in Venice

Tod in Venedig by Thomas Mann is one of my favourite books. The fashion spread "Wellen" Karl Lagerfeld shot for Vogue Germany's current issue reminds me pretty much of that novel. Just one pictures doesn't fit so I didn't show it here. But you can see it here.

"Death in Venice" is about an author - Gustav von Aschenbach - in his early 50s who seeks rest in Venice/Lido. There he falls in love with a young boy, what he tells himself is an abstract, artistic interest. Well there happens nothing in that case. But, however, by accident he finds out about a cholera epedemic in Venice, but funks his resolution to warn the boys Polish family, knowing that if he does, Tadzio (the boy) will leave the hotel and be lost to him. So he stays and dies of cholera at last.
