Tod in Venedig by Thomas Mann is one of my favourite books. The fashion spread "Wellen" Karl Lagerfeld shot for Vogue Germany's current issue reminds me pretty much of that novel. Just one pictures doesn't fit so I didn't show it here. But you can see it here.
"Death in Venice" is about an author - Gustav von Aschenbach - in his early 50s who seeks rest in Venice/Lido. There he falls in love with a young boy, what he tells himself is an abstract, artistic interest. Well there happens nothing in that case. But, however, by accident he finds out about a cholera epedemic in Venice, but funks his resolution to warn the boys Polish family, knowing that if he does, Tadzio (the boy) will leave the hotel and be lost to him. So he stays and dies of cholera at last.
This particular picture was my initial point:

YVES SAINT LAURENT = NAVY SLUT IS NEATER
50 years ago Yves Saint Laurent became a legend over night. Only 21 years old he was announced the successor of Christian Dior and therefore reign over the world's most famous fashion label. He gave the smoking to women, made the military look sociable and brought with his Mondrian inspired dresses painting to the runways – Yves Saint Laurent ruled the silhouette of a whole generation.
His love for art was reciprocated and still is. The German art magazine Monopol asked eleven artists for their personal view on Yves Saint Laurent.
Gerwald Rockenschaub, Marc Brandenburg, Carsten Fock, Marilyn Minter, Dennis Loesch, Heinz Peter Knes, Ursula Döbereiner, Eva Grubinger, Tobias Rehberger, Paulina Olowska, Cerith Wyn Evans

robin rhode at haus der kunst munich
The performance
Just now I had the time to look through the photos I'd taken during the opening reception of robin's exhibition at the Haus der Kunst in munich where I've been last saturday. They are just a few since I was so busy talking to all the people I met there: Sabinah (robin's "wife" girlfriend quote: "The rock behind the rhode") and parts of her family, Robin's brother and his girlfriend from Southafrica, Robin's aunt and uncle, friend's I've been to the documenta with, Perry Rubenstein (who is very charismatic - see a picture here) and many others.
The family
Part of the opening reception was a performace curated by Robin showing a dancer. Unfortunately I was so late, that I only had the chance to see the performance on a screen. The "original" place was so crowded that they didn't let any more people inside. But lucky me I met Robin and could see his performance standing next to him and experience all his excitement ;-)
The guy who probably signed to most catalogues that night. No, not Robin, but his brother who looks very similar (Robin is in the back wearing a white shirt).
After the reception we all went to the "infamous" p1 club (see a picture here) which is located right next to the Haus der Kunst. It's the place where all the munich celibrities go to and where it is so hard to get inside. I've heard so many stories about it, that I couldn't resist the chance to take a glimpse, although I'm not so much a fan of "clubs" like that (I've never seen so many Porsches and Mercedeces and Ferraries standing next to each other - well o.k. I've worked for Mercedes twice and my boyfriend used to work for Porsche, but, I guess you know what I mean ;-)
All in all it was a very nice evening and fortunately the munich underground serves all night long so I could get cheap and safely to my sleeping place (omg I always forget how clean, guarded and safe munich is!) on a friends couch in southern munich.

The next day - which was very hot! - I went to the Haus der Kunst again to take some pictures of the exhibition, but I - despite my press pass - wasn't allowed to. They told me that the artists don't like it when people take pictures of their newest works and that I should contact the press office if I wish to have some pictures. Allright. I've seen most of the works before they were exhibited in public anyway. So there are just a few pictures which I took "secretly" ;-)

Irakli is from Georgia and a very nice guy. Currently he lives in Mannheim with his girlfriend tea who happens to be a model to a lot of his paintings. Two of his works are shown at the Bourgeois Pig right now. They somehow remind me of Bernard Buffet (the solitude of the people in his pictures) and a little bit of Gustav Klimt (the sketches) aswell...

Gallerinas by the Satorialist
A German magazine calles young and beautiful girls working for or running New York it galleries "gallerinas". I wonder if this is a dream of every young and beautiful art historian, to work or shall I say to be exploited by a hip and stylis art gallerist? Last weekend a New Yorker galerist made me an offer, I have no idea if he is to be taken seriously, but well, what an honour ;-) Can you imagine me beeing a New York gallerina? For now I'm a Heidelberg gallerina, that's not bad either, at least much cheaper...
