Is the swastica the new it symbol?

What's next after the skull and the palestine scarf? We already saw the swastica on Alexander McQueens designs... So ladies be careful while deciding what to wear you could make more than just a fashion statement ;-)

BBC News:
Zara withdraws swastika handbags

The fashion chain Zara has withdrawn a handbag from its stores after a customer pointed out that the design featured swastikas. Zara said the bag came from an external supplier and the symbol had not been visible when it was selected. A customer who returned the bag to the shop when she noticed the symbol said staff had been "shocked" to see it.

fashion?

On youtube there is this video response thing going on (you might have heard of renetto - he's quite famous talking about life and whatever comes to his mind). It's not new, but kind of new to me since I haven't payed attention to it before. I posted a starting comment on fashion before. It was by tlg847 and interessting for me to see what "normal" nonfashion people think about the things that rule our lives.

I got really excited to see what people would respond to tlg847's post. There aren't that many responses so far - which might show that fashion (still) is something many people don't know what to think about.

Pedroatlarage compared the fashion shows's impact on streetware with the Grand Prix racing sports impact on family cars. Not exactly a response I would have expected, but one that could have been made by my father.

too many american apparel posts?

Are there too many posts on american apparel on this blog that friends start sending me more american apparel stuff to write about? I have no idea. But please see this post as my last on that topic for some time. It took me a second to realise that this is ought to be fun. Well doesn't that say something about my american apparel opinion (hey, I love american apparel stuff and I'm currently wearing my beloved lamé leggins). A very good friend of mine is working there. I hesitate to send her that article...

14 American Apparel Models Freed In Daring Midnight Raid | September 19, 2007

LOS ANGELES—Acting on information gathered from billboards, alternative weeklies, and Internet banner ads, an FBI strike team liberated 14 dazed, sallow, and undernourished American Apparel models in a raid on the controversial organization's downtown Los Angeles compound early Monday.
"There were girls lying everywhere—draped over furniture, sprawled spread-eagled in the corner, and huddled close like animals," FBI Special Agent Curtis Froman, who oversaw the raid, said at a press conference. "Many of them had been given nothing more than a pair of tube socks or men's briefs to wear."
Froman said it took agents nearly 20 minutes to cut through the holding-cell padlocks, only to find the ambiguously ethnic-looking captives living in "unspeakable conditions."
"They just stared up at us with blank expressions of utter confusion," Froman added. "I don't think they'd seen the sun in weeks."

women with broad shoulders

TtanwCredit: satorialist.com

The photo of this women taken by the satorialist a couple of days ago reminded me of myself. I probably have the exact same figure and the same broad shoulders but I'm not sure if I like the dress on her. It looks very feminine and masculine at the same time. I know, that I wouldn't wear it because I would feel uncomfortable highlighting my shoulders in that way, but why? Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm not the sweet little tiny girl I sometimes wished to be. Oh fashion can be so cruel! I guess that's why I like that photo so much. This woman looks powerful and sexy at once, without the androgynous fragility of a supermodel (which I love aswell)...

Camilla Engmann

Well, there's everything allright with me. I'm sorry for not updating regularly, but I have a lot to do. I'm working at a boutique/gallery right now (one of my current three jobs...). It's in my friend's section in my left hand sidebar aswell: The Bourgeois Pig. I'm there two days a week, thinking about nice stuff to do, exhibit, order and sell (please feel free to submit stuff!!!), and taking care of the website (there will be a new one up within the next couple of weeks) and press stuff. We have an opening reception on saturday celebrating the first anniversary and there still are so many things left to do.

So while you all might be in Fashion Week feaver (uuhu Gareth Pugh...), I have to take care of the artsy fartsy side of life for some time. Camilla Engman is one of the artist/illustrators who's works are going to be exhibited from Saturday on. Camilla is from Sweden makes fantastic stuff, has a very cute dog and runs a very nice blog aswell.
