COLLEZIONE MARAMOTTI

Credit: CHRISTOPHER THOMAS

The Maramotti Collection moved into Max Mara's old factories. The collection contains pieces of European and American Art sind 1945. On two floors, 43 halls, and two "open spaces" 200 artworks are shown: Arte Povera, large canvases showing Italian Transavanguardia, German and American Neoexpressionism - Baselitz and Kiefer, Schnabel and Basquiat; Early works of Cy Twombly, Richter, Polke, Trockel, Bacon; Peter Halley's neon coloured wallpapers, Alex Katz, current British and American art - Barry X Ball or Tom Sachs. And that's only the beginning... The collection is a "work in progress". The Maramotti family keeps on collecting on and on...
The best thing about this new exhibition space is the silence and the emptyness. Admission is free, but you have to sign up for beeing one of the 25 visitors who are allowed inside at a time. To me this looks like a HUGE luxury - but well that's how it is when it comes to private collections, isn't it? I guess I'll have to start my own private art collection soon ;-)
